Opinion Piece: Non K-pop Fan on Nu'est

This is an opinion piece requested by admin, Anne Jalil. I shall be nameless and she asked me to write a piece on Nu'est as she is excited with my interest on Nu'est. Before I started, let me clarify a few things. This is a on-the-surface piece. I did not do research etc. I just write what I can think is an honest brief opinion and forgive me if this piece does not meet your expectation. Normally, I'm a Korean Pop hater. I'm a typical man who only listens to alternative songs, ballads, rocks, hip-hops and sometimes pop but definitely not k-pop. I despise the concept and I think they're overrated and talentless. The evil marketing of promoting good-looking guys and girls with zero talents. Sugar-loaded girl groups, the trying-to-hard cute expressions and men wearing makeups which make them look like queers. And I thinks bro-mance is a sin.

But I will give credits to Big Bang and 2NE1, as they're the real talents for me, the non k-pop fan. But I won't elaborate on these two groups. Everytime admin Anne watched Korean music videos (her usual selections will be the ridiculously too many members Super Junior and After School and *Infinity-I don't remember)
My usual comments will be:
"That guy used too much makeups"
"Dah macam pondan tengok"
(translate: he looks like a queer)
"Tukar tengok benda lain boleh tak?"
(Can we watch something else?)
"Can you stop playing these songs?"
I think she is really angry and boiling listening to these. She got fed up and I also got fed up and she stop watching them in front of me.Now one day, I caught her watching 1 video clip telling about school's bullies. My eyes caught on one female looking member (now I know his name is Ren). Honestly, I was a bit smitten and asked her if this is a mixed group. She said no. That 'girl' is actually a real boy. I'm shocked. I saw Korean queer looking guys but never a girl looking guy (*later she showed me one of the Shinee guy). The song, Face really caught my ears and likable. I've secretly downloaded the song and secretly watching their live performances. Sooner or later, I was caught by admin. Instead of laughing and jeering, she asked me why.

Here is my reply:
"Yes, I usually hates looking at guys putting too much makeup. Instead of making them look cool and manly, they look like queers. Now Ren is a different story. That image of his is fresh and new. Instead of looking like a half man, half girl, he looks exactly like a girl. But I can still see his manly manners and physique. Surprisingly he have muscles, he dances like a man, he acts like a man, he sounds like a man*. This is the image I can accept. Because of the entertainment industry, he's bringing the pretty boy image but he is still a boy nevertheless. I can see that in the clip. As for the rest of the members, even though they used makeup,  they're still masculine. Everyone of them. For me, Nu'est nails it. And their songs are good. I can really listen to them without commenting too much."

Their voices are not the best I ever heard. Same thing goes to their dance routines. Or the songs. But I can safely says that I'm bewitched by them. First time, I think there is an ok k-pop group (aside Big Band and 2NE1 as admin is not really fonds of them). What really impressed me is, the fact that they just debuted this year, making them a newbie. But to me, they does not look like an amateur, they look professional enough. This goes by saying, if Nu'est works hard enough, no doubt they will be an international group one day. And I'm shamelessly admitting that Ren is pretty, and JR is very masculine. Kudos to Pledis Entertainment (heck, I even know the company handling them) for the amazing concept and the bold move by imprinting dupsteps in the songs. Nu'est is fresh.

Admin tried to make sure that she is not being bias here, so she showed me another new groups that she also likes, Exo and the *bunny-logo group (I can't remember). I just think they are just a normal korean group. Nothing special but not irritating as well. But a credit to the bunny group. Their songs and dances are powerful, but I'm not enchanted enough. :)

And no, I'm not admin's boyfriend. But I do heard about her partner also liking Nu'est Face. I'm not surprised. Her partner also dislikes K-pop. Just like I did. But I may change my rebellions against k-pop a little bit. They just gained some of my respects. And please forgive my English.

With regards, nameless guy.

Anne's here!
He's hopeless!! Let me clarify a few things also. The sentences with the * symbols.

*Not Infinity, it is Infinite
* The SHINee member he stated is Taemin
*He saw and heard Infinite's Sunjong, he think Sunjong is queer *pondan* =__=  aduih!
* The bunny-logo group is B.A.P
Tsk tsk tsk..
Please do not bash him. It was cool he wants to write for my blog *ok ok I have to bribe him with Venti-sized Starbucks*

Review: Nu'est Action Album Review

This is not my opinions or reviews.
This is an honest review that worth sharing..
NU’EST’s name is created from the phrase “Nu Established Style and Tempo.” They proved to be a popular group upon their debut with five handsome members and a forward-thinking concept based around dubstep sounds and complicated choreography. The group pushes these same ideals of their namesake, but tries to be bigger and better with their new ‘Action‘ EP.

Not Over You
The release begins with “Not Over You” which has a great summer feel to it; similar to fellow labelmates Hello Venus’ “Like A Wave”. The dreamy, thumping dance production kicks off the EP on a great note. The electronic guitar strums have a similar sound to the pre-chorus sung by Colby O’Donis on the Akon track he’s featured on, “Beautiful”. (You might also remember BoA jumping on a remix of this track for Akon’s Japanese release of this album). Though it’s not the most striking piece of music, “Not Over You” is definitely a gem with the boys jumping from singing to rapping, as well as layering electronic elements that push the song forward and keep the pace nicely.

Action
Next we have the comeback track “Action” which has a ton of great ideas, but ultimately comes off as disconnected. Pledis Entertainment sometimes nails it with certain forward-thinking music and concepts (After School Red and Blue come to mind). They are clearly trying to do something different with NU’EST too. While debut track “Face” was a breezy, catchy track with an amazingly subtle dubstep breakdown, “Action” goes the opposite route making everything bigger and more aggressive. Unfortunately, the ambitious moves are just simply disconnected and detract from the music.
The intro begins with seven seconds of cinematic horns and strings before abruptly transitioning into the electronic production. The same is done on the bridge going into one of the heaviest dubstep breakdowns (or perhaps the term “brostep” is a better description) in idol K-pop. Once the breakdown is over, the track changes completely by slowing down as lead singer Baekho shows off his belting skills (and we get some glamour poses from Ren). While going into Skrillex territory is a fresh move, the track gave no indication it was going there and only incorporates it for that small section. “Face” introduced its unique dubstep section and then the boys sang the bridge section over it. The breakdown in “Action” feels more like a random way to shock listeners or gain some type of dubstep credibility. Both cinematic and “brostep” elements are found in the opening track “NU, Establish, Style, Tempo” of their debut maxi-single ‘Face’. But those elements were blended better than those in “Action”. This is somewhat concerning especially when “NU, Establish, Style, Tempo” is just supposed to be an attention-grabbing intro.

Sandy
Third track “Sandy” is a cool idea and another remarkable album track. Mostly, it’s a smart move, especially for a rookie group, to dedicate a new song to their fans which will encourage future support. Both of Pledis’ newest groups seem keen on securing and pleasing their fanbases with both Hello Venus and NU’EST launching official fan clubs. “Sandy” is a bouncy, electro-pop track about a proposal that is sure to set the hearts of those fans aflutter. Another nice addition to this EP.

Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday” finishes things off as a ballad written, produced, and arranged by Jung Yun Seung. The track ultimately doesn’t do much other than offer a change to the electronic elements of the EP. If NU’EST is really all about establishing new tempo and style, I would have expected something other than the usual K-pop ballad. T-ara’s “Don’t Leave” is an excellent atypical ballad and something that I think would have fit better on this EP than “Happy Birthday”. However, this track is better and more memorable than most ballads with the long notes held out at the end of the chorus as the melody changes as highlights. Plus, you can hear it’s a real piano accompanying which is a nice, refreshing touch to the electro-based EP.

Its proving harder and harder for rookie groups to break out, especially this summer when so many established acts are making their comebacks. For NU’EST the ‘Action’ EP should further solidify the boys’ place in K-pop. My advice to NU’EST: Keep doing what you’re doing, but tidy things up a bit before the next comeback.

Reviewer's Rating: (2.89 / 5)

As much as I love Nu'est, I have to agree with the reviewer regarding the
dubsteps being disconnected to the song. It was kinda shocking as we're listening to the song and suddenly a weird dupsteps coming in. It was kind a turn off. But being a fan, I forced myself to accept it. But for others, this will gains more critics. And I'm sorry, I'm not really good in describing a music. :)

As for the rest of the songs, they're great for me! :)

Review: Nu'est Action

I'm always left behind at doing music video reviews..
Not to mention a noob as well >__<
Like I used to quote in my FB account...
"First After School's comeback, then Super junior..now Nu'est"
I haven't have time for my heart to be at peace and calm..
Always hyperventilate at each comeback.
*oh my poor heart*
Not to mention daydreaming in front the laptop while repetitively watching the MVs..

A friend of mine have reviewed it here..
I'm not taking shortcut or being lazy here..
But she nailed it very well..
I might looks like a loser in compare with her review..
So I focus on what I do best..Guys Watching..
Hahahaha...

Credit: SELCA11

Like Vee stated, the comeback is decent. No extravagance promotion whatsoever..
The MV is also typical but overload with HOTNESS and SEXINESS!!!
I experienced goosebumps watching my younger guys *lame-o lame-o* in action..
I gulped several times *non pervert please*
The choreography is impressive!! Very syncronized..
The song is an earwax candy..:P
Love it the moment I listen to it!

See-through top..me likey!

Sadly, but it is a truth, my white tiger Baekho is kind of outshined by other members *in my eyes ok since he is my main bias*..But he still looks sexy in a see-through net-like white top @__@ *pervert noona??*

In this video, my eyes is kinda glued at Minhyun..His vocal in this song is amazing and much better than in Face. In this video, his mysterious, cold and sexy auras/charms are double up.. *hanyan* *pervert noona again*

Aron..He is handsome as always..Alright. But I like him better without his hair extension. Then again, it might be his real hair..they just cut it..Just like in the top picture. He looks sinfully good looking here..pewwwitt! *oh hi vee* *guilty guilty* hahaha..

Oh? Whatcha looking at love?? I'm just tying you for while... *saiko noona fan*

JR..JR..JR..always and forever blessed with killer looks and killer gaze. I don't mind tying him with those wires..hahahaha *perverting again..;p* He keeps stealing my heart.. *give it back!!* His haircut here suits him very well..Unlike the wavy one back in Face.

Hello girls! I'm prettier than you guys!

Ren..I feels like hating him for being too pretty and prettier than real girls. But I can't..I can't hate Nu'est.. *melodramatic??* He looks amazing, cool, chick and like a diva here. I even like his outfit.

The downside is, the dupstep is weird. I almost cringing hearing it..

And oh! Nu'est wins this polls!! Congratulation my boys!!!

Sophiavee@tumbler

Why I'm super excited about this?? Last time I've checked (which was yesterday) Nu'est was left behind by Exo by 2000++ votes..
The power of L.O.^.E *ok I don't really know how to this symbol..somebody teach me please!*

My K-Pop Bias (Male Group)

It is 1.30 am and I'm still fresh as hell!
Bored with my Facebook page already..
So I've decided to babble on my blog instead..
This is an unplanned, last minute post..
So please forgive me if this post is blasé...
And I only focusing on groups that I called myself their fans and keep updating their latest comebacks and variety shows.

Super Junior
My very first K-pop love..It was 2010 and I blamed my eonnie for exposing this to me..
*Damn you eonnie!!*
Hahaha..
From Kibum to Donghae to Leeteuk..
My final bias finally settled on pretty boy Lee Sungmin
Everything about him is pretty, sweet and cute..
He's too adorable..
I can't get enough of him..
Never..
How can I not loving that beautiful smile?? *hanyan*
SHINee
Addicted to their Ring Ding Dong track, I started digging their previous songs and first fell in love with Almighty Key.
After a while, my attention started to switch to their main vocal, the brunette Jonghyun after watching Hello Baby.
His voice is so powerful, each times he throws an ad lib, I have goosebumps.
He's manly and getting intensely buff at each comeback.. *Swoon!*
Hello delicious!!
Beast
My 2011 love. Fall in love immediately with Fiction, I've feverishly stacking up Beast tracks on my player ever since.
My gaze fell upon another pretty man..
Jang Hyun Seung..
A pretty boy with a face and a voice..
I like his 'Troublemaker' image the best!

U-Kiss
Yes, as my friend pointed it out, the name is....sigh!
Ubiquitous Korean International idol Super Star
Damn! It was quite a mouthful..
My one and only bias..Never change..
Shin Soohyun.
The moment I lay my eyes on him in Neverland clip, I make sure I know his name that very second!
He's not the most good looking man on planet but he is already handsome to me..
Armed with a powerful voice *meltingggg*, pervert-inducing-thoughts solid body, he seems so REAL to me..
He proves that you don't need to be beautiful to be perfect..
Every time he sings, I just........melt~
Über delicious bod and voice..yum yum!

Nu' est
The start of an era going gaga over boys as young as my 4th brother..Damn!
Now where is the elixir of life??
So that I can love them without feeling guilty like a pedophile..Hahaha..
Here is an exception..I actually have two biases..
First is White Tiger Baekho
I first went gaga over him when he appeared in After School's Play Your Love..
I went like "oh my, that is one great looking boy"
And despite his weird debut hairstyle (trust me, I don't like it)..
I'm still drawn to him..
Baekho-pre debut
Well hello there..from white kitty into white tiger..
Then, I stumbled upon leader smiling picture, JR..
Now now..How can I not like that?
That smile of his can melt the iciest heart!

Exo-K
At first, I don't really like the extravagance teasers of Exo.
After the released of History, I began warming up to them..
It was Kai at first, but after a while I started paying attention on Baekhyun..
He's both super cute and bless with high-pitched,steady voice..
I really like his vocal in Mama..
I keep replaying that track just to listen to his voice.
And his image in Mama, is dark and rebellious..His gaze is intense!!I like!

Upon makeup removal......

He looks so young, pure and innocent!

Infinite
My latest addiction.. My bias is Woohyun..
As usual, he has THE VOICE that can melt women hearts.
The reason I keep replaying their tracks is because of his voice..
I swoon over his part..
I fly...I...*realized that I could not fly..Damn spoiler!*
And of course because their songs are great too...

I like his 'Paradise' image the best..
He looks so cool and smexy *smart & sexy*

The pattern is obvious..I'm attracted to the member with THE VOICE and most  of them have Hyun in their names..
SooHYUN, WooHyun, BaekHYUN, JongHYUN, HYUNseung, JongHYUN (JR's real name)...
And now...if only I can integrate HYUN in Sungmin's and Baekho's names..
How about Sungminhyun and Baekhohyun or maybe Donghohyun (Baekho's real name)???
Nahhhh!! It is weird..Just leave them be..
Why so obsessed with pattern, AnneJ??
